In celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD) 2019, a remarkable social business project was undertaken by diploma students from the Faculty of Business, Communications, and Law, in collaboration with the INTI-Yunus Social Business Centre and the Department of Social Welfare Negeri Sembilan. The objective was to inspire and empower girls from the Rembau Children Home by providing them with an opportunity to build a promising future for themselves.
The project involved enrolling the”girl’ from the Rembau Children Home into the Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant program, a partnership with Mary Kay (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. Through this initiative, the young girls were encouraged to believe in their abilities and realize their potential, demonstrating that they too could achieve success in life. All activities related to the program took place at INTI International University and were jointly organized by the students, the Mary Kay representatives, and the staff from the Department of Social Welfare. This collaborative approach aimed to create a supportive and nurturing environment for the girls to flourish. To further support their journey as Independent Beauty Consultants, the University generously funded RM500 for each of the girls. Embracing Social Business: INTI's Curriculum Integration
INTI International University has taken a forward-looking approach by integrating Social Business activities into its existing curriculum, with a particular focus on the General Studies subjects. This innovative initiative seeks to instill a strong sense of social responsibility and entrepreneurial spirit among students while nurturing their creativity and problem-solving skills.
In the year 2020, INTI International University successfully completed three impactful student projects under this initiative, all of which involved diploma students. These projects challenged the students to develop comprehensive Social Business Plans that addressed real-world social and environmental issues. By doing so, the University aimed to inspire the next generation of leaders who are not only profit-driven but also deeply committed to making a positive impact on society.
The process of embedding Social Business into the curriculum began with providing students with the necessary knowledge and understanding of the concept of Social Business. Through their General Studies subjects, students were exposed to the principles of sustainability, social entrepreneurship, and ethical business practices. Students were then assigned the task of formulating their Social Business Plans, requiring them to identify pressing social problems and devise innovative solutions. This exercise encouraged critical thinking and creativity as students sought to develop sustainable business models that could bring about positive change.
One essential aspect of the project was the video presentation of the Social Business Plans. Through this medium, students were encouraged to articulate their ideas effectively and engage their audience in a compelling manner. This activity not only honed their public speaking skills but also enhanced their ability to communicate the social impact of their business ideas.
The integration of Social Business into the curriculum has proven to be a transformative experience for both students and faculty members. Students were inspired to think beyond conventional profit-driven ventures and explore how their entrepreneurial endeavors could contribute to the greater good. Moreover, it instilled a sense of purpose and motivation as students realized that their business acumen could be a force for positive change in the world.
By imbedding Social Business into the curriculum, INTI International University has demonstrated its commitment to shaping socially responsible leaders who are equipped with the knowledge and skills to address global challenges. As the projects continue to evolve and new Social Business initiatives are introduced, the University continues to nurture a generation of change-makers who will drive sustainable and impactful progress in the years to come.
