Counselling Center

For students and employees with unseen disabilities, such as mental health conditions or learning disabilities, the Counselling Center recognizes the unique challenges they face and is committed to providing comprehensive support. Our dedicated team of licensed counselors is available to offer individual counseling sessions that aim to assist students in managing their mental health conditions effectively.

At the Counselling Center, we understand that unseen disabilities can have a profound impact on a student's overall well-being and academic performance. Our counselors possess expertise in addressing a wide range of mental health conditions, including anxiety disorders, depression, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, and other learning disabilities. Through a personalized and confidential approach, we strive to create a safe and supportive environment where students can openly discuss their concerns and receive appropriate guidance.

During individual counseling sessions, students will have the opportunity to explore their emotions, thoughts, and experiences in a non-judgmental and empathetic setting. Our counselors employ evidence-based therapeutic techniques to help students develop effective coping strategies, enhance self-awareness, and promote personal growth. They may also assist students in setting academic goals, managing time effectively, improving study skills, and advocating for their needs within the university community.

Additionally, the Counselling Center collaborates closely with other campus resources, such as the Student Services Department and the Teaching and Learning Unit, to ensure a holistic approach to student support. This collaborative effort allows us to address not only the mental health aspects but also the broader academic and accessibility needs of students with unseen disabilities.

Confidentiality is of utmost importance to us, and all counseling sessions are conducted in a private and secure setting. We strictly adhere to professional ethical standards and legal requirements to safeguard the privacy and confidentiality of our students. Our counselors are well-trained in maintaining confidentiality and will only disclose information with the student's explicit consent or when there is a risk of harm to the student or others.

To access our services, students can schedule an appointment, call our office, or visit in person during our regular office hours. We encourage students with unseen disabilities to reach out and take advantage of the counseling services offered at the Support Office - Counselling Center. Our dedicated team is here to support, guide, and empower students on their journey towards improved mental health and overall well-being.

In conclusion, the Counselling Center is committed to providing individual counseling sessions tailored to the specific needs of students with unseen disabilities. Through a confidential and empathetic approach, we aim to assist students in managing their mental health conditions effectively and enhancing their overall well-being.

Dedicated Office for Support Students with Disabilities

The Student Services Department is committed to providing holistic assistance to students with disabilities throughout their academic journey. Our primary goal is to ensure that all students have access to the necessary resources and support systems that enable them to thrive academically, emotionally, and socially. The department consists of a team of experienced professionals who specialize in disability services and possess a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by students with disabilities.

The Student Services Department offers a range of services tailored to individual needs, including:

Accommodation and Accessibility: We work closely with students to identify and implement reasonable accommodations based on their specific requirements. This includes identifying the most accessible rooms for them. We have also prepared the necessary ramps to enable students with disabilities to move between accommodation blocks to cafeteria as well as to academic blocks with ease. Ramps and lifts are placed at strategic locations around the campus. Besides that, a link way bridge connecting the accommodation blocks to the academic blocks enables students to cross over with ease.

Emotional Support: Recognizing the emotional challenges that students with disabilities may face, our department offers counseling services and connects students with relevant support groups and networks. We aim to foster a supportive and inclusive community where students can feel empowered and encouraged.

Advocacy and Accessibility Awareness: We actively promote accessibility awareness throughout the university community. Our department collaborates with faculty and staff to ensure the accessibility of physical spaces, course materials, and online platforms. We also advocate for the rights and needs of students with disabilities at all levels within the university.

Parallel to the Student Services Department, the Teaching and Learning Unit plays a crucial role in supporting faculty members in meeting the learning needs of students with disabilities. The unit provides faculty development programs and resources to help instructors create inclusive learning environments. They offer guidance on adapting teaching methodologies, designing accessible course materials, and incorporating universal design principles into their curriculum.

The Teaching and Learning Unit provides the following resources and support to faculty members:

Faculty Development Workshops: We conduct workshops and training sessions to educate faculty members on best practices for inclusive teaching. These sessions focus on creating accessible course content, employing instructional technologies, and fostering an inclusive classroom environment.

Curriculum Design: Our unit assists faculty members in adapting their course materials to meet diverse learning needs. We provide guidance on creating accessible syllabi, developing inclusive assessments, and implementing alternative teaching methods.

Accessibility Tools and Technologies: We offer faculty members access to various assistive technologies and resources that facilitate inclusive teaching. This includes captioning services, accessible multimedia tools, and learning management system integrations.

Consultation and Support: The Teaching and Learning Unit is available for individual consultations to address specific challenges and provide personalized support to faculty members. We are committed to collaborating with instructors to enhance the overall learning experience for students with disabilities.

In conclusion, our university strives to foster an inclusive and accessible environment where all students can excel and reach their full potential.
